Women in Construction Anglia invites construction leaders to return to the classroom

Construction leaders have gone back to school – spending a day in the classroom at West Suffolk College to see how the next generation learn their trade.
Students were joined by company directors, managers and leaders from across the construction sector, as part of the Women in Construction Anglia (WICA) event.
Clare Friel, founder of Women in Construction Anglia, said the back to school day, which took place on Wednesday February 12, was a huge success.
She said: “It was great to be able to invite construction leaders into the college, giving them a glimpse of life in the classroom and to speak with students about their training.
“It’s important we are able to give students, particularly women, the opportunity to meet industry leaders and inspire them as they begin their career in the sector.”
The classroom experience is an offshoot of the Women in Construction Anglia West Suffolk College Student Takeover Lunch, on March 14, which will see those who attended return to the college to speak about their experiences.
Neil Pryke, Contracts Manager at SEH French, who took part in Wednesday’s event, said: “The students we were working with are a credit to themselves and the college.
“I witnessed some very good talent who hopefully will continue their journey and have a great career in the sector.
“A massive thanks to everyone involved – it was a pleasure to be part of.”
Averil Young, Teaching Advanced Practitioner at Eastern Education Group, said: “Our female students had an unforgettable experience working alongside industry leaders in the workshop today.
“They were all great sports – fully embracing the day, getting stuck in, and making it an enjoyable and inspiring experience.
“The hands-on interaction with industry professionals gave them real insight into the skills, teamwork and passion that drive the sector.
“It’s days like these that leave a lasting impact, empowering the next generation of women in construction and helping to shape the future of the industry.”
