Sizewell C has kicked off procurement for a £100m-£250m bulk earthworks package to carve out the main construction arena for the twin-reactor nuclear power plant.
The two-year enabling works contract covers excavation of around 3.3m cu m of made ground, crag sand and peat from the Suffolk site to prepare foundations for Units 1 and 2.
The winning contractor will start in January 2027, managing fleets of 45-tonne all-terrain dump trucks to haul material along a segregated heavy-haul road between the Main Construction Area and the Temporary Construction Area.
Scope includes testing, segregation and stockpiling of suitable material, shaping and compaction of disposal areas, and coordination with the site’s civil works alliance.
